Collapsible Course List

Want to easily see what courses you or your employees have available without having to scroll down a long list of titles? Now you can. Upon logging in to your courses, learners will have a convenient collapsible course list and new left-frame global navigation. Any available courses will display in a new collapsible tree-view list beneath the appropriate header.

Each available series will be listed in the course list with an expandable folder icon. Learners can expand this series folder to display courses, lessons, and individual lesson elements (Lesson, Question, Activity, and Summary). If a learner closes the course list window and logs in again, the course list will display with all folders closed; it will not remember which folders were expanded. If a learner wishes to return to a bookmarked location, he or she must click a course title link from the Course List View. If the learner clicks a course lesson or lesson element link, the learner will be taken to that specific location, not the bookmarked location.

Course List Icons and Images

New course list icons will be introduced in the collapsible course list. This will allow learners to more easily view, at a glance, what is available.

Accessibility Course List View

The accessibility course list view will be modified to eliminate the top and left frames, cleaning up the interface and removing unnecessary functionality. Student transcripts will be available via a link at the top of the accessible course list view.

Authorware and Flash Detection

Some courses require either Flash or Authorware to view interactive course features such as simulations. With the June release, this Flash/Authorware detection process will be moved to course launch and modified to detect only where necessary. Learners will be asked to install Flash or Authorware only if they need it.

Note that the Authorware detection process will not initiate if the learner has an Internet Explorer browser lower than version 5.5. The learner will, however, have a chance to install Authorware if he or she reaches an Authorware simulation and attempts to launch it.

Instructional Audio

With the latest course release, learners accessing 36 courses within the Word 2003, PowerPoint 2003, Outlook 2003, Excel 2003, and Access 2003 series will have the option to hear instructional audio on every course page. Some of the instructional audio-equipped courses are new, while others are existing titles that have been enhanced.

The instructional audio track for each course page consists of the text displayed on the course page. Courses with instructional audio will have new speaker icon and replay buttons in the course navigation bar. Learners must have the Flash Web Player installed to enable instructional audio and must have a sound card installed and speakers connected in order to hear instructional audio. An “Enable instructional audio” checkbox will appear on the My Preferences page with the default setting ON. Audio preferences are saved upon exiting.

Simulation Conversions

Courses within the Access 2003, Excel 2002, Outlook 2002, PowerPoint 2002, and Word 2002 series have been revamped to include Flash simulations in place of the previous Authorware simulations. Simulation content may vary slightly in the final Flash-converted simulations. For example, Authorware simulations that used Windows drag-and-drop feature were modified, as this action cannot be simulated with Flash.

Existing learners who have access to these courses will be required to install the Flash plug-in in order to view the new Flash simulations. In most cases, learners will already have installed the Flash plug-in to view otherFlash course components.

Smooth Page Transitions

A new user preference called “Smooth Page Transitions” will allow learners to see course pages “fade in” when paging forward or backward through the course. The smooth page transitions eliminate the flash between pages, improving the earner experience. The default My Preferences setting for Smooth Page Transitions is OFF.

Progress Report Link

A new Progress Report link will be added to the Course Tools tab in the Course View for all platforms. This will allow all learners to view the course questions that remain unanswered. The list of unanswered questions will remain available from the Scores page as well.
